White Crowns
For a tooth that needs more than just a simple filling, Dr. Osborn may recommend a white crown. Also called a cap, a crown covers the damaged tooth, restoring function and shape. To preserve your smile’s naturally white appearance, Dr. Osborn prefers to use all-white crowns made of porcelain or zirconia.
Crown placement takes two appointments. During the first visit, Dr. Osborn will prepare the damaged tooth and take an impression. This mold will be sent to the dental lab, along with custom tooth-shade information, for fabrication of your white crown. The doctor will also place a temporary crown to protect your tooth until the final crown is ready.
During your second appointment, Dr. Osborn will remove the temporary and secure the permanent restoration. She may make adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit and proper occlusion (how upper and lower teeth fit together). Porcelain and zirconia dental crowns create lasting, durable repairs. To keep your restoration strong and beautiful, brush and floss the area just as you do your natural teeth.
